Premier Program Tryouts 2017/18 FAQ
Maitland Soccer Club previously held tryouts at the end of May / start of June once the season was complete. Why has the date moved?
FYSA has passed a motion that has given players and families the opportunity to attend tryouts and register for a team for season 2017/18 before the 2016/17 season has concluded.
The motion that tryouts can be held starting on April 1st was approved at the FYSA 2016 AGM. This means that open registration for the 2017/18 soccer season for all clubs commences from that date onward.
Maitland Soccer Club will hold tryouts commencing Monday 3rd April, which is consistent with what each and every FYSA sanctioned club has the autonomy to do.
Who are FYSA?
Florida Youth Soccer Association is the governing body who sanction leagues, clubs, coaches and players in the state. FYSA provide the rules and regulations we adhere to.
What happens to my roster spot on my current team after tryouts on April 3rd / 4th?
Absolutely nothing changes for the remainder of the spring season!
It is imperative to note that no players will be ‘cut’ or dropped for the remainder of the 2016/17 season. All teams should be aware of their league and tournament calendar for the spring and their existing team will remain in place until the last ball is kicked by each team in late May or even beyond.
In the event any existing player is not offered a roster spot on their current team for the 2017/18 season, this tryout determination will not supersede the clubs commitment to developing players for the duration of the 2016/17 season.
Does this mean that there will be no tryouts in May or June?
Maitland Soccer Club will still hold tryouts at the conclusion of the 2016/17 season in late May / early June (dates TBA). Please note, however, that 2017/18 roster spots will be offered on the evening of the first tryout date and subsequently at any point from April 3rd onward.
Club tryout protocol will remain consistent as previous years where players will receive an email confirming roster spot selection and will have 24 hours to accept their spot via submitting a registration payment. Upon the elapse of the 24 hour window, roster selection emails will expire and the roster spot will become open again.
Maitland Soccer Club will also hold a tryout evening on a team by team basis during the second practice of the week (Wednesday or Thursday) during sessions in April and May. For approval to attend these tryout sessions, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
What follow up communication will I receive post tryout in April?
Players can expect to be given one of two responses from the April tryouts.
1. Congratulations! We are delighted to offer you a roster spot on TEAM NAME for season 2017/18.
2. Thank you for attending tryouts for TEAM NAME. At this time we are requesting that you return to our next set of tryouts to be held on DATE X.
Will all roster spots be offered out in April?
The number of roster spots still ‘open’ after the April tryout dates will vary on a team by team basis. It should be noted, however, that each club is looking to fill a minimum 75% of roster spots per team during the April tryout period.
Due to April 1st triggering a period of open registration for all clubs state wide, Maitland Soccer Club encourages existing and new players to attend tryouts starting April 3rd to give each player the best opportunity to be evaluated for placement.
