Lightning Policy

All coaches, assistant managers and team managers will be asked to download the Weather Bug app. If lightning is detected within 10 miles of the field then the players will be asked to go to their cars. Children without parents in attendance will be asked to share vehicles with those that are. The coaches and team managers can then use First Touch to let them know when we can go back on the field.

If there is no more room for players (e.g. one parent stayed) then the coach must find shelter where available with them.

Parents and team managers will be asked to step forward and let a coach know if lightning has been detected within the 10 mile radius if he or she has not noticed it yet.

Regardless if the fields have a lightning detector, coaches will use the Weather Bug app. However, all coaches are to make sure that the app is set to their exact location and not the nearest weather station that could be a few miles away.

No matter how frustrating a weather delay or cancellation can be, we will not allow the safety of the players, put into our care, to be put in danger during a storm.
